Serial Number on Colt Police Positive Special

2016/7/22 9:16:38

Question
I inherited a Colt Police Positive Special (stamped on left side of barrel) A .38 special.  I am a moron I am sure, but to save my live I cannot find the serial number.  I have looked everywhere.  It has wood grips, checkered pattern with the silver colt emblem near the top of the grip.  I would like to check the age of the weapon, but I cannot do so without the serial number.

Answer
Larry,

Colt put serial numbers on all their guns.  The numbers were usually stamped on the butt or inside the yoke.  To locate it, open the cylinder and look at the 'hinge'.  That is the yoke.  There could be a very small number there on the face of the yoke.  If you can't find it inside the yoke, remove the grips and see if you see it underneath.

Hope this helps you out.

Regards,

Doug
