7mm German Mauser

2016/7/22 9:18:13

Question
As a child my grandfather had a German Mauser that was lost in a house fire.  I always assumed it was a military rifle. a few years ago I was able to purchase an old 7mm mauser but it is nothing like the old rifle I remember.  My grandfather's Mauser I remember had German markings.  The gun was longer than the one I have now.  The rear sights raised up instead of ramp up.  My opinion is that his old rifle was probably post-war because of it's immaculate condition.  I don't really know.  I really would like to find the same model but am having trouble finding pictures on the web. I feel like that I could identify the model if I could see a picture.  Do you know where I can find a complete picture library of all German Mausers ever made?  Or maybe you can help me with history of 7mm and the flip up sights.
Thanks for your time
Steve

Answer
Steve,

I recommend that you start by visiting the Mauser website. There is a lot of info there to include time line, model variations, and photos. Perhaps you will find what you need there. I often use this site for reference material and find it very helpful.  www.mauser.com

Good luck and thanks for the question.
