registering an old handgun and the value of it

2016/7/22 9:22:34

Question
hi Sid

This was given to me by grandmother who received it from a friend around 1952. I was wondering how to go about registering this, not know any real history on it before 1952. Also I was wondering about an approximate value.
Walther p 38 dc 43
Thank You, Billy

Answer
William,

There are dozens of variations of the p38s in circulation and positive identification is best done in person by an expert appraisal by a qualified person.

That said, I believe that your pistol in "good" condition would be worth approximately $500 to $600. Please keep in mind that this is retail value in "good" condition and is based upon not being able to personally examine the gun.

As far as registering it, you need to check with your local police dept. and/or sheriff's dept. for registration information. There are just too many jurisdictions with too many individual laws concerning registration for me to be able to give you a 100% correct answer. In fact, you may find that there is no registration required in your area at all. However, please check it out as suggested.

Thanks for the question.
