Question
I HAVE A S&W MODEL 24-3 .44 SPECIAL.  SERIAL NUMBER IS ALA3425.  I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN THE WEAPON WAS MADE, IF THEY ARE STILL MANUFACTURED AND APPROX VALUE.

ANY HELP IN THIS MATTER IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

SHAWN PIERCE

Answer
Shawn,

The model 24 (.44 Target Model of 1950) was introduced in 1950. In was built on the N-frame Model 21 with target sights.

Manufacture of the Model 24 was discontinued in 1966. S&W produced slightly over 5,000 Model 24s. However, it was reintroduced in 1983 through 1984 then dropped again.

The retail value in "good" condition would be about $300. Condition is very important in considering value. This information is to used as a guide and not as a quote.

Thank you for your question.
