still 16 ga. single shot shotgun

Question
My father bought a 16 Ga. Newport shotgun some where in the 1920's When he pasted away I got in shotgun. It is still in really good shape and it still fires and is very accrete. I would like to know a little more about the shotgun and how much would it be worth?

Answer
Hi Rex,
You have a house branded shotgun that was made either Crescent Fire Arms Company of Norwich, CT or Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works of Fitchberg, MA. It was sold by the Hibbard Spencer Bartlett Company of Chicago,IL, a large wholesale hardware and sporting goods dealer. I can not tell you which company made yours without seeing it. These utility grade shotguns often referred to as hardware guns as they were sold at hardware stores. Its worth $75 to $150 depending exact condition. You might want join www.16ga.com its free. Its a place for all things 16 gauge.
