Carrying a visble firearm

I am 18 and just got a .22 ruger and shoulder holster with extra mag pouches on the side and I was wondering I live in louisiana and can an officer arrest me if im just carrying in public?.... and if an officer does ask me why im carrying what do I say? personally I believe very strongly in never pulling a gun unless your ready to shoot. My dad was a marine for 5 years and I know my way around a gun very well i know all of the rules and safety tips, but have no safety verification or safety classes. will that be a problem with an officer?

I claim no expertise on LA laws as I don't live there and don't have any business there.

The latest information I have is that LA is a shall-issue state for concealed handgun permits for those who qualify (21 years of age, proper training, etc.). I can find no indication that LA allows for open carry.

Unless that has changed and until you can verify that it is changed, you cannot carry the gun without risk of arrest.

If you are arrested for illegally carrying a gun, nothing you can say will help you. If on the other hand it is legal to carry a gun, questions such as "why are you carrying that?" are in most cases illegitimate and are best met with silence.
