Hi, I'm Justin and I'm 19. I fish quite a bit and always carry
a .22 rifle in case of snakes. I'd really like to get a .22
pistol because its easier to carry. Is it illegal for me to
take a pistol with me?

It depends on where you live.  For example in Arizona, it is perfectly legal for you to own a handgun and openly carry it anywhere it is legal for you to have a firearm.  You just need to check the laws of the state where you reside.  If you'd like to respond to me with your state of residence, I will happy to let you know what the applicable laws are...
