H&R Handy Gun 410 GA

Question
Doug:A friend of mine in Louisiana ended up with a H&R Handy gun that belonged to his grandfather. It is in excellent condition.Question:Can this gun be registered now as an AOW with the BATFE.If so what is the process. He would like to hag on to it and register it if possible. If it can not be registered what is required by law to happen to this weapon and the process. You have a great web sight.Thank You Bill

Answer
Bill,

If the gun is not currently registered, you are LONG past the November 1968 deadline where these could be properly registered.  If you attempted to register it, your gun would be seized by the BATF as contraband.  Possession of an unregistered NFA firearm is a felony crime.

If it is not registered, it must be surrendered to the BATF and hopefully they won't arrest and charge your friend for being in possession of an illegal firearm...he may want to get in touch with an attorney for some legal advice on how to handle this issue.

Sorry about the bad news...
