Identifying & Valuing Your J. Stevens Springfield Shotgun (Model 311/315)

Question
I have a 12 Gauge side by side double barrel. There is no model number however there is a number inside on the receiver which is X80005 the Gun is made by J Stevens for Springfield. When was this produced and what model is it. What is the approximate value.
Thank you

Answer
Hello Herbert. Your shotgun is a Springfield Model 315 made from 1920 up to WWII. If it has an uncheckered grip with a "Not So Pretty" hardwood stock stained with a walnut finish, it is a model 311 made from 1931 up to WWII. The X80005 is not a serial number, but may be a stock number. Either one is worth from $125.00 to $250.00 depending on condition. I hope I have answered your questions and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
