western sixshooter

Question
QUESTION: .22 caliber  hawes firearms co. germany serial # stamped twice.  wondering how old this gun might be and the history and value of it. Also stamped with 68 and two other symbols.  Thank you

ANSWER:  Hi Lori,

The Hawes Firearms Co. out of California imported guns into the US from Germany back in the 50's and 60's. The guns were in fact made in Germany by a company called Sauer and Son's, now famous for the Sig Sauer line of weapons. Your gun was made in 1968, as they were stamped with the year. Probably one of the last years that they made these guns for Hawes. In a private sale, you could probably get 200-250 if the gun is in great condition on down to 100-150 if the gun is rusted, needs work, etc.

Best of luck!

QUESTION: Thank you for the information.  I have another gun. steyr1916, 2884mstamped with k's and a big S.W-D and eagle with some kind of symbol under its claws stamped by the trigger.   Thank again

ANSWER:  The Steyr 1916 is quite an interesting gun! It is believed that only a few thousand were made, and those that were made were part of a contract to make pistols for the Bavarian Army. Your Gun was made in 1916 or 1918. The gun in Question has "K" stamped on the gun, that is a "nazi proof" as these guns were issued to the german army during the nazi period. My guess is that if the gun is in good condition you could get 450-500 dollars for it.

QUESTION: Would you know where I could sell these? Thanks again, you were a great help!

Answer
well you could always sell the guns to a gun shop or a pawn shop that sells guns, however you would get significantly less than what they are worth. The best way to make top dollar on the guns is to sell them yourself to another individual, this cuts out the middle man making you more money. You can try listing the guns on several websites that are classifieds, put a ad in the paper, or a local trading magazine that you may have in your area. Best of luck in selling them!
