double barrel shot gun

Question
I found an old gun in a closet of an old house I bought. It had markings of Crescent Fire Arms of Norwich, Ct. It has the number 415921 stamped on both the barrel and receiver. Two cocking levers and two triggers. Can you tell me anything about it? Thanks in advance.       Troy Wilson

Answer
Troy,

Crescent Arms manufactured these types of shotguns between 1891 and 1931.  There were a number of mergers and acquisitions that Crescent was a part of during the period from 1929-1931, therefore the serial number records are very poor.  Crescent was a large 'private label' manufacturer, meaning that they build guns for a variety of retail outlets, mail order catalogs and distributors.  Nearly all of the guns were utilitarian and inexpensive in nature.

This particular shotgun was made in 12, 16, 20, 28 and .410 gauge versions.  It also came in hammerless and exposed hammer versions.

Depending on the caliber of the shotgun, it might be worth $175 to $200 depending on condition.  There is a slight premium for the .410 or .28 gauge version.

Not much more to tell...hope this helps.
