S&W SW40 Barrell stuck

Question
When I was assembling my S&W SW40 I must have put the barrel in wrong because it is proturing about a 1/2 past the lower receiver and I can not get it off again.  Any help would be greatful.

Answer
Brad,

From your description, I am guessing that only the barrel is sticking out of the slide.

Before any thing else, remove any ammunition from the gun.  If by some chance there is a loaded round in the chamber DO NOT attempt to remove the slide, but take your gun to a qualified gunsmith for repair.

If there is no ammunition in the gun you can try the following:

Always keeping the gun pointed in a safe direction and following the instructions in your manual, you want to lock the slide open, use the frame tool to disconnect the sear.  Now you are ready to try removing the slide again.

Turn the takedown lever to the downward position, then placing your hand on top of the slide you want to slide it slightly to the rear, then lift the rear of the slide up slightly and then attempt to move the slide forward towards the muzzle.  This may require the use of a moderate amount of force if the slide is jammed.  If you are pulling moderately and the slide still does not want to come off, it may be jammed in place and again you will probably want to have a gunsmith look at it.

You should not use any tools like a hammer or any other impact on the rear of the slide to attempt to move it forward as you may cause damage to the slide or the slide rails...

I'd also check to make sure that the slide is properly seated on both slide rails as that can cause a slide to hang up as well...

Not much else to tell since there is no 'magic secret'.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance.
