Colt SAA .357 Magnum Production Dates: A Detailed Explanation
Question
I have a Colt SAA .357 mag serial #36486SA, which according to the research I have done so far is a second generation revolver made in 1962,however, someone at a gun store told me that Colt did not make SAA in this caliber until 1983. Do you know when Colt started production of SAA in .357?
Answer
Hello Michael. Yes, your colt was manufactured in 1962 and in .357Magnum. The 2nd Generation began in 1956 with .357 Magnum as one of the original calibers. It can be found in the BLUE BOOK OF GUN VALUES by Fjestad. Values between $750.00 to $2,000. It came in a one-piece black box and if you have it you can add another 30% and if it has a 4 3/4" barrel you can add another 15%. As with Doctors, firearms need a second opinion, as well. I hope this answers your question and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
