16 Ga. s x s Lefevre shotgun

Question

Hello  I've really gone crazy trying to find info on a
Lefevre Arms shotgun  I'm really inexperienced and new to the
gun scene  I've tried to check on the serial n. but could not find anything under the n. 5000 I tried sites like shotgunworld and gunsAmerica
its a 16 Ga. sxs the serial n. is 47937 , under the fore wood grip there is a letter G
I assume that the letter G stands for the grade of the gun . there is nice checkering on the wood no rust all numbers match. Any information would be absolutely appreciated

Answer
Hello Silvano. Your Lefever was manufactured in 1903.It is a sidelock model. The Lefever Arms Company manufactured the first commercially successful hammerless double barrel shotgun made in America. They were made in Syracuse, New York from 1885-1916. The G under the forearm is the grade of shotgun. Your's being a G Grade makes it the number 4 grade out of 10 plus the Optimus Grade. If your shotgun is in good condition,it may go in the 60% NRA Grade at $1,500.00 and a 90% at 1,800.00. There is also a 50% price increase for the 16 gauge(only 8% made in this gauge)added to the going collectors rate.I hope this helps answer your question and thank you for asking for me.Charles Gage
