Handgun..revolver..need your opinion

"I would like to buy my son a revolver for trapping.  He is 24 yrs old and has rifles, but would like a revolver to carry with him while he is trapping.  I don't know a lot of info on guns, don't know what I should look for, and don't know what caliber pistol would be the one to look for.  He needs something larger than a 22, in order that he can kill a fox, badger, coon, or coyote if he needs to.  I would like to spend only around 200 or less if that is possible."

Spending under 200 may be tough unless you get a used one.  I would get him a nice .357 mag, it has good power but comes in revolver and he can load it with .38 ammo or .357 ammo, they are the same size bullet, just .357 has more powder, so it is faster and has more kick and take down power.

They make a nice Titanium model, so it is really light, I have a smith and wesson, I think they are called Airlite, No hammer style is better, also called an internal hammer, so no moving parts, so it can be fired from inside a jacket pocket, purse and the hammer will not get jammed on anything, since it is enclosed (inside).  I think this model is about 600 or more, but very light weight and very good gun, may find one used for 500.

Depending on how he wants to carry it will also depend on what you want.  If he wants to carry in holster, the longer the barrel the more accurate it will be at longer distance.  6 inch barrel is very accurate, 4 inch no as good and 2 inch only good at pretty close range.

You should ask him what he likes, what he would get so you get him something he likes and will carry and use, if he does not like it or trust it, he will not carry it and if he needs it and it does not work you will feel bad.
