Stevens Shotgun

Question
Hello. I was given a pawn ticket for a shotgun. the descritption reads:  "Stevens Shotgun 20 Single M# 94C  S#  NSN  28" Barrel. Bluing is missing, Woodgrain Stock, Very Rough."  Can you tell me what any of this means and if it is worth the $30.00 it is pawned for?  We also have a 1936 World War 2 French Mouser and I am interested in knowing the history behind this gun and possibly the value now.  Thank you in advance for your time.      Julia in Tennessee

Answer
Hello Julia. The Stevens 20gauge Model 94c is valued from $50.00 to $85.00 according to condition. The 1936 WWII French Mauser was manufactured as a German K98K 7.92x57mm bolt-action rifle. The French purchased many of these rifles from captured inventories after WWII for defense and police use. The French stamp SVW45 was stamped on the receiver ring. Some of these were fitted with a marking plate on the side of the stock. The letters and numerals tell the story of the Reserve Regiment and Company this rifle was issued to. Example: 5/R.R. 12 35 says this rifle was issued to the 5th Reserve Infantry Regiment 12th Company Rifle#35. At times the German information is contained on the opposite side since the plate was reversed to contain the new information. The sling hole through the stock was for the German-Style sling. The French-style sling (different from the German) required a side mount shallow hole with a bar. Value is always subject to matching serial numbers on parts, condition overall and number manufactured. Most are valued in the $150.00 to $200.00 price range. I hope these answers will help and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
