Identifying Shell Size for N.R. Davis & Sons Shotgun (1920s)

Question
I have a 12 guage single shot shotgun that was made in the 1920's by N.R Davis and Sons. I can not find out what size shell it takes. Can anyone help?

Answer
Hi Stephen.

There is limited information about your shotgun. They were quite common and were sold under many different brand or trade names. Most of them are not valuable. Here is a link to the manufacturer info on the blue book site:

The only way to tell for sure what shell is appropriate would be to have it inspected by a gunsmith. Most can determine this in just a few minutes and would probably do it for free. This is also important to be sure the gun is still safe to shoot. Look in your yellow pages for a gunsmith and stop by to see them.

Good luck!
