Old Colt revolver

Question
Hi, I have a pistol I'd sure appreciate some help with. Age and value, how many were made?
It's a 6 shot, double action, serial # 37897 D, 6" barrel, COLT ARMY SPECIAL 32-20 W.C.F., plastic grip with "COLT" on each side, left side of frame there is a horse, on the barrle it reads "COLTS PT FA MFG CO Hartford Conn USA, Pattend Aug 5 1884,June 5 1900,April 9 01, July 4 09. It's in good condition, not perfect but very good.
Thank you so much,
Jeff

Answer
Hello Jeff. The Colt Army Special serial numbers contained 6 digits. Are you sure yours isn't 378970 ? If it is, it was manufactured in 1914. These came with Plastic or Walnut checkered grips. The auction prices I have seen are in the $600-$900 range depending on the condition. I don't know how many were made, but with a little investigation on your own you should be able to find this information. I hope this helps and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
