Question
Doug, I have a cwp for the state of Washington, and I'm going to be moving my wife to-be from Iowa. Does my cwp translate to the states that I will be going though? (Iowa,Neb,Wy,Ut,Id,Or,)

Answer
Hi Don,

Based on the information available to me as of January 2008, your Washington permit is recognized in Idaho and Utah only.

There is no recognition or reciprocity for your Washington permit with Wyoming.

Iowa, Nebraska, Oregon do not recognize permits from any state other than their own.

Not the best news for you...

In terms of transportation of a handgun in your vehicle while transiting each state here's the rundown:

Iowa - handguns may not be carried in a loaded or accessible condition (unloaded in the trunk is OK)

Nebraska - handguns may be transported in plain view or stowed in the trunk.  Unloaded handguns may be transported in a LOCKED glove box.

Oregon - loaded firearms must be carried in plain view or securely encased in the trunk or storage compartment of your vehicle.

Wyoming - loaded firearms may be transported in plain view or secured in gun cases anywhere in the vehicle.

Hope this helps you out...

Doug
