Browning 16 ga. A-5

Question
Recent addition is a 16 ga. Serial number 73535 R is stamped above the
number.  From one of your previous answers I believe the R to stand for
standard not sweet sixteen. This should explain why Sweet sixteen is not on
the receiver and no gold trigger.  What is the difference between Standard and
Sweet? On the left side of the receiver above BROWNING there is an R with a
circle around it, is this a standard trade mark of a Remington reference? The
butt plate has FHN in  the center, the underside of the trigger guard has
scrolling the whole length. Any info on differences and manufacture date are
appreciated. R/ Lee

Answer
Lee,

Your auto 5 is a standard grade made in November or December of 1956.

The difference between the Standard and Sweet 16 is most notable by the gold trigger added to the Sweet 16. The Standard has a black trigger. The engraving is virtually the same. There is a substantial weight difference with the Sweet 16 weighing less. The circled R merely stands for the Browning Tradmark. Hope this helps.
