Remington Model 700 ADL

Question
Hello,
I own a Model 700 ADL 7mm. Remington magnum, I purchased several years ago, and I am looking to replace the stock. My question is what is the difference between a long action and a short action? Where ever I look they list the stocks as one or the other without an explanation.
Thank You
Harold

Answer
Hi Harold.

These terms refer to the overall length of the action which is related to the overall length of the cartridge.  Most firearm manufacturers make a variety of rifles in different calibers so they will make some rifles with short actions and some with long actions.

Generally when you buy a replacement rifle stock it is designed for a specific brand and model of firearm so you wouldn't normally be able to get both a short action stock and a long action stock to fit the same rifle.  To be sure you can call Remington to confirm how they categorized your specific rifle:

Personally I like to shop online for replacement parts.  For the best prices I like to use:

and for the best selection I try:

Good luck!
