Identifying & Valuing a Vintage .22 Long Rifle Single-Shot Rifle

My dad has a 22 single shot long rifle with yhe number 973 on it . We are trying to find out how old it is and the value.Can anyone help us?

I'm really sorry, but there is basically nothing to go on here.  If you had a manufacturer and a serial number I might be able to dig around and get you some info.  Check the barrel for any other markings that might tell the manufacturer and serial number...

I wish I could be more helpful...but just not enough info.
