springfield shot gun

Question
QUESTION: Paul,
Please help! I can't find info on an old Springfield single shot shotgun. I can find no serial number. It is marked "Springfield Arms Company Chicopee Falls MA USA" It is stamped "barrel and lug forged in one piece" on the barrel. On the inside of the barrel it is marked "WAPT". On the right of the lockplate there is a "c". First, do you know what "WAPT" means? 2nd.. the "c" carbine? or Cresent Arms? I am confused because it seems as though Springfield didn't make a shotgun like this... but if It was Cresent made wouldn't the address be Norwich? I am looking to find age and value if you know and any other cool or neat thing you might be able to tell me. It is a break open with a lever to open it. The lever has a checkered design on one side. To me, this is a beautiful, well made and old gun.
I could send pictures if you like. Thank you . thank you for any direction you give me.
Dina

ANSWER: Sprinfield is house brand made Savage/Stevens.

QUESTION: Thanks... well that's a bummer! I was finding similar looking ones going for around $1,500!
Can you tell me what "WAPT" stand for?
thanks
Dina
ANSWER: That I don't know.
There were a few dozen seperate model numbers and they are are all lumped togeather with little detail.
I do not know what they stand for as they are not referenced in my books.
What were finding that was single shot worth that much?

Savage bought Stevens in 1920, Crescent-Davis in 1931
and AH Fox soon after.

QUESTION: Paul,
To answer your question about where did I find single shots worth that much.... I didn't. I am super ignorant about guns. When i started looking and saw shotguns that looked similar I got excited and thought maybe I had something of value.I thought since mine was old and in good condition i might have something.... but alas....
Your info makes sense as I now started looking under the Savage/Stevens name and found plenty of shotguns that REALLy look like mine... in exactly the price range you said. ;)
By the way I tried your link and it said "page no longer available.
thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi again
I been meaning to up date my profile for 6 years or so.
The link is dead.
Your shotgun is not a collectors ideam by it is a well made
utility grade shotgun. The last form of it ran from 1937 to 1987. Much of the basic design goes even further back.
They work well. It easily can put a meal on your table or have fun shooting trap.
