Weatherby Mark V Classic

Question
Hello, I'm in the market for a Weatherby Mark V and a good friend of mine has a Mark V in 300 Weatherby that he refers to as a "classic" model.  He says it has a traditional stock as opposed to a Monte Carlo and also said that Weather produced these models for a few years in the min 1990's.  Have you ever heard of the Weather Mark V "Classic"?  If so, what can you tell me about it?  Thanks

Answer
Brooks,

I'm not sure what your friend has but there are two Weatherby "classics". One is the Weatherby Vanguard Classic 1 and 2 and the other is the "Classic Custom".

The Vanguard is actually a Japanese manufactured economy rifle that is chambered for a variety of standard American cartridges and was introduced in 1989. It does have the classic ( no Monte Carlo) stock and comes with a 24" barrel.

The Classic 2 is nothing more than a more deluxe version with a higher grade walnut stock.

The Classic Custom has an oil finished French Walnut stock with checkering, ebony forend tip, and metal grip cap. This gun is available in the 300 Weatherby.

There are several other versions of the Mark V that are/were available with a "classic" stock but the model/s were not officially designated as "classics". This or course does not mean that owners won't refer to them as such merely designating the fact that the stock lacks the Monte Carlo type stock.

I hope this helps and thanks for the question Brooks.
