Identifying Your Ithaca Model 49 Saddlegun: Serial Number Information

Hi Sid,
I have a model 49 that I purchased new in the early 60's, about a year after they first hit the market. I have looked everywhere on it for a serial number and can not find one. Can you give me any hints?

Hi Leon,

My guess is that you have a model that was a pre Gun Control Act of 68 rifle which did not require a serial number. Many (including Win.) used a serial number for inventory tracking/stocking purposes but it was requeired by law. Most companies had certain models that were produced at one time of another minus a serial number if manufactured prior to G.C.A. 1968.
