Extended Choke Tubes

Question
I was wondering what the exact purpose/reason for extended choke tubes are and if they are worth the extra bucks if i'm shooting Skeet, Trap, Double, etc...
Thanks,

Chad

Answer
It makes the transition from the barrel to the choke less abrupt.
Like an elongated forcing cone smoothes the transition
from the chamber to the barrel.  Longer choke tube may
have fewer pellets deform making for a better pattern.
How much difference depends the grade of shot and type of wad used.  In skeet it may not be a benifit at all.
On a trap gun for handicap trap it will likily help a little.
They handy with sporting clays as you can see which
choke is in (if marked) and and easier to change them quickly. I would pattern the gun first and see how many
out flyers you have. If its not a alot then I would not bother unless its for convience. If you have a lot of out flyers I would have your forcing cone elongated first.
