Why heel brakes?

Question
I intend to transition from quads to in-lines soon (better for outdoor use) but I have noticed that contrary to quads & ice skates, in-lines have heel brakes. Why is that? & think that I would have a much easier time of that if I didn't have to learn a different way of braking.
Regardless of the reason, I think I'd be much more comfortable with toe brakes. Are there any manufacturers that make in-line skates (for beginners) with toe brakes?
Thank you.

Sean

Answer
Hi Sean,
I'm not exactly sure why the brake is on the back but my guess is because the boot is rather bulky and stiff which would make it hard to drag your toe like roller skates.

It's not hard at all and you'll get use to it very quickly.  Just stop pushing, put your feet together, bend both knees and send the skate with the brake to the front while lifting your toe up gradually.  The harder you press the faster you will stop so go easy at first.

Yes, they do make inlines with a toe stop but they are quite costly and not for beginners.  They are for the more advanced skater so plan on spending quite a bit of money on their skates.

Good Luck...I'm sure you will do fine
