roller skating in NYC for adults

Question
Hey there - Next December will be my third trip to NYC and before I even got there I found out about Roxy Wednesday night roller disco on a search.  Well...  That night we got all gussied up to go, and I thought to call right before we left and cried when I found out there was a concert that night.  So... The following year I called ahead to make sure that it would be open on the day that I was there, and I arranged my plane tickets around that Wednesday night.  We had a big rooftop party, watched Xanadu (no lie!), and prepared to go.  Out of paranoia from last time, I called again, and I was told that the club was not doing the roller rink that night!  We were sooooo dressed for it, so I called again and asked where the closest rink was, and the guy said that the DJ was going to be at the Chelsea Piers!  So excited.  When we got there, we were so bummed because we had to wear these horrible plastic in-line skates and wanted quads of course.  But, at least I got a taste of the Roxy a little...  Only 5 "regulars" from the club showed up, but they were a lot of fun, so we made the best of it under the florescent lights...  ANYHOW!  This year, I'm coming in on a Thursday and staying through Monday.  Does Roxy still only do Wednesdays?  Are there any daytime skate hours on other days?  Desperate to fulfill my dream here!  :)  Thanks so much!

Answer
Julie,
What a bummer - Kismet is really messing with your dream. I am the skate pro for the Roxy & well know the frustration of Roxy's cancellations as my classes from time to time are bumped for some reason or other. Roxy only does Wed. night for skating - no daytime hours except for my classes (6:30PM on Wed. & 6:00PM on Fridays). My advice, since it is really seldom  that Wed. skate nights are cancelled, is that you take a shot & change your reservation to include a Wednesday - it would be well worth it to have that "Roxy experience". There is a great skating venue in Central Park on the weekends that you should check out in NY if you are there between April & Oct 31st. You can call me at 212 777-3232 for info or e-mail me at [email protected] I'd be glad to direct you to the best skating available in NYC. Keep rolling....................Lezly (Lezly Skate School)
