Skiing training

Question
Hi Lisa,
A set of 5-6 people are planning to ski this winter in Colorado. Funny thing is none of us have skied so far. So, what we look for is a trainer who can train us in a day or two. Just an amateur basic training enough to fun in snow would do with us. Do you provide such a service? Or can you pls lemme know who provides this in Colorado?

Answer
hello and thanx for the question.

all ski resorts offer ski instructors who can get you up and skiing in just a few hours - as long as you have some fitness [playing sports is a great start] and reasonable balance.

if you don't have either of these then it will take you longer - as with most sports.
For example:
*if you're sitting on the floor - is it easy to get up?
*can you bend over and tie your shoes standing up[not sitting on a chair]?
*can you walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing?
*can you stand on one foot with your eyes closed?
*can you stand on a wobbly platform/surface?
*can you skate [ice or roller], ride a skateboard or surf?

if you answered yes to a few of those then your half way there. if not - you've still got time to work on it!!

look for accommodation packages that include rentals, lift passes and a lesson - it will often be cheaper than buying all the 'bits' separate. However if there a few of you and you want to stay together, you can organise through the snow-sport school an instructor just for you...it could be more expensive, however they are able to plan the lesson based on your needs.
BUT - there is always a but - this will only work if you are all about the same fitness and sporty. if you have 1-2 that are not as athletic, you will find that the faster learners will find it boring as they will learn a lot faster. you can still have a great time together - but an instructor can really only progress you as fast as the slowest learner and the slower learner will know who they are and feel bad they are holding you up - then they often quit soon after...

in that case - just join the normal group lessons - but you may end up in different classes, and that will be based on how athletic you are.

the other thing - make sure you have the right type of clothing ... it can be a wet day if you skimp on the clothing - most of which you can rent.

get you equipment at the resort - if you've got any problems it's easy to change it - you don't have to get it into the car [or plane] and if you progress you may want to try better skis??

is there anything else i can help you with?
here to help
