What fin type do I need?

Question

Bottom of board (rear)
Hi, I bought an old bic sports windsurf board that is about 10.5ft long.  It's missing the rear fin and I need to find a replacement.  I've attached a picture of the bottom, but was wondering what type I need to buy?  I was told possibly a-box, but wanted to double check.  Thank you for the help! Ryan

Answer
Hey Ryan,

There is only one fin type that will work on your board but there are three different names depending on where the fin was made. Look for 'A-box', Chinook, or US base. There is also the same style called a European base, but, it has tabs on the bottom that would have to be filed/sanded off to fit in an 'A-box' type fin box.

There is a pin on the back of the fin that will slip into the wide part of your fin box and once you have the fin positioned (forward for light winds, back for high winds), you push the front of the fin down into the box. Then you slip the fin screw nut into the fin box and push it back to line it up with the hole in the front tab. Then insert the fin screw through the tab and into the nut and tighten. Take a folded towel and push on the back of the fin near the tip to push the fin base all the way into the fin box and then retighten the fin screw.

I've included a link with a pic of the A-box type fin. These type fins can be found for a better price on ebay. The get fin screws/nuts, just call the Windance shop and they ship you out a few. They are cheap and it's good to have a few extras.

Hope this helps.
