Windsurfing Board Size

Question
How do you calculate the weight of a Windsurf Board according to weight, if you don't want to water start? e.g. 90kg

Answer
Hey Anna,

What you are looking for is the volume of the board. This determines the amount of floatation a board has. The higher the volume, the more floatation. For a sailor weighing 90kg, they would probably want a board with at least 145 liters of volume. With the newer technology in boards being wider and shorter, less volume is required. Some of the factors of determining the size board is the predominate type of sailing that the person will be doing and their sailing ability. If it is light winds with bigger sails, then a larger board (something 165-200ltrs) may be preferred. If they occasionally get higher winds and will use medium size sails, then 135-165ltrs may work better. It's sometimes difficult to say that a specific size board will work for a certain size person. A lot of variables to consider.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
