Stuck fin

Question
Hi there,

I recently bought a second hand board and when I tried to remove the fin it
has remained stuck in board. I am afraid to apply too much pressure lest I
break it. The previous owner had a van to store his stuff so maybe he was not
removing the fin as often. What do you suggest I do? Is there any product I
can apply inside?

Thanks!

Answer
Remove all the screws holding the fin. Spray some silicone all around the base of the fin and fin box. Take a small piece of 2X4 wood ( about 5" long)  and place it against the back of the tip of the fin.  Line up the wood grain with the sharp edge of the back of the fin.  Take a larger piece of 2X4 to use as a hammer and start to tap the piece of wood protecting the tip of the fin.  Use more silicone spray if necessary and keep tapping until you see it start to move.  Make sure you know whether or not the fin is a slide in fin with a pin. If it has a pin holding it inside the fin box then tap the fin with the wood on the opposite side of the fin where the pin is. Works for me every time.  Good luck and good wind.
