Wind Turbine Locations: Coastal vs. Inland - What Influences Placement?

It is a common misconception that wind turbines are mostly found by the sea. While it is true that many wind farms are located along the coast, these areas do not hold a clear majority of installed turbines. Factors such as wind resources, land availability, infrastructure, grid access, and local policies greatly influence where wind farms are developed rather than their proximity to the sea.

While coastal areas can experience favorable wind conditions, other inland regions may also posses adequate wind resources suitable for wind farms. The placement of wind turbines is ultimately based on technical and economic factors rather than a preference for specific geographic locations.
