Calf muscles

2016/7/21 18:02:11

Question
Hello. I'm fifteen and I have really big muscles on my calves. I walked to school for about twenty minutes a day when I was in elementary school, and now about five minutes up a hill in the morning. I also walk pretty fast, none of my friends can catch up with me without jogging. I just find it more comfortable walking fast even though sometimes it hurts my legs. They're not quite proportionate to my body. Also I get tired easily walking up the hill. If I try to lose weight, would that also decrease their size? I can never wear skirts in the summer because I don't want anyone to see my legs. Even though I've got lots of muscle they don't really help me with anything and rather hurt.

Answer
You did not mention your weight status. It would be a mistake to try to lose weight unless you are overweight now. At your age, you can expect the proportionality of your calf muscles to change in the future.

In the meantime, your strong muscles could be made to work in your favor. It sounds like you might have a lot of potential in athletics. Well-developed leg muscles are essential for good performance in nearly every sport. Sports that involve a lot of running or quick movement might be especially worth exploring. I would urge you to look into such sports as soccer, track & field, basketball and volleyball.
