walking problems

Question
I need exercise but when i try to walk briskly i get out of breath and my legs hurt

Answer
When are just starting an exercise program, it is not necessary to do it briskly. Brisk walking can come later after your body has adapted to the new effort.

It appears you are trying to do too much too soon. Slow walking for short distances is OK to start with. Keep walking slowly while gradually adding distance. If you can work up to 2 miles per day of comfortable slow walking, you can then think of picking up a little speed.

It took time to get out of shape, so plan on taking plenty of time to get back to better health. Life is a marathon, not a sprint!
