Butterfly stroke...!!!

2016/7/15 11:58:20

Question
Hello Kate, let me admit here that I am a good daily swimmer, especially with butterfly and backstroke. Most of the time I visit City Lake for swimming and you know lake provides ample security for swimmers. What I wish to know here that how come I find difficulty in using these strokes while swimming in ocean? I agree that butterfly is not a good category for ocean swimming, yet is there a specific or particular technique to observe if I (stubbornly) keep trying using butterfly in ocean? Or whether you would suggest me to opt for freestyle only? Thanks, this is Raj from India.

Answer
Good Morning Raj,

My honest answer is that the butterfly doesn't have a good (different) technique to swim in the ocean. I am pretty good at the butterfly but even I struggle in the ocean. The waves make it very difficult to get high enough to keep the stroke at any level of ease. I would suggest the freestyle or breast stroke technique in the ocean. I would love to hear from you if you do find a way to swim the breast stroke with ease in the ocean and I want to encourage you to keep trying. Thank you for your question and I wish I had a better answer for you.

Kate
