turbo trainers

Question
i am looking at buying a new turbo trainer to replace my cats eye cyclosimulator cs1000. the one iam thinking of buying is the minoura vfs 3 trainer with fork support basically what i need to know is the max wattage of 590 which the trainer can do high enough for simulating hill sessions or should i look for a model with more power

Answer
Hi Steve,

For most recreational riders the 590 Watts is more than sufficient. For pros or semi pro racers you may need more. It really is more dependent on your ability than on the trainer itself.

I can tell you it would be enough for me, but since I don't know your cacpabilities there is no way for me to be sure if it is right for you. 500 plus watts of power can get someone up a hill quite nicely.

What is the max wattage you can put out? If it is over 500 then I would look for a bigger one.

I read some on bicycling.com where a pro such as Lance Armstrong at his prime would put out as much as 1200 watts, and a recreational cyclist will put out probably around 250-300. So you need to decide whether you are able to max out the machine or not. If you think you can then look for one with more power capabilities.

Hope this helps

Have a great day
