Insulated Panniers: Keep Food Cool on Your Ride
Question
Grame, do you know if there is such thing as a pannier that acts like a cooler? I
always pack my meals for the whole day and i have to figure out a way to keep
them cool and the normal panniers wont allow it and putting my meals into
another cooler, and into the pannier doesnt really work
Answer
Alex,
I have not yet seen any such panniers. If you want to give it a go, it is a heck of an idea if done right. I imagine you could easily cut to fit flexible, waterproof, closed-cell foam (such as they use for lightweight camping mattresses)and glue it to the inside of a budget pannier. Depending on the thickness of the closed-cell foam, you wouldn't detract much from the interior capacity of the pannier and it might add some water resistance without adding much weight. Plus, you could get ice cream home from the supermarket without it melting. . .
How large are your meals, anyway? ;-)
Great idea!
