700cc?

Question
Hi there,
I have a question. I have a Marin Novato bike, with some Mavic Crossride rims (26") and some Bontrager comfort tires (very nice combo) but I dont go on trails any more. I am looking to get a bike with 700cc rims. They are probably garbage rims (im looking at the Rocky Mountain RC50). Im just stuck cause I like my bike and I put AALOT of money into it. But on the road, bikes with 700cc rims seem so fast.
What would you do? I already have an 11 tooth rear cog, and a 44 chain rig. Oh also my tires are semi slicks and 1.5 X 26".
Any advice would be great. Thank you!

Answer
The reason bikes with narrower tires go faster is because of reduced rolling resistance. The more tire on the road, the more friction and the more rolling resistance. I don't know of much about narrower rims for mountain bikes. I would suggest beyondbikes.com as a possible source.

Another thing you can look at is a narrower tire with a raised center ridge. This can reduce the amount of rubber on the road, thereby reducing rolling resistance.

Hope this helps
