Race Training

Question
Hi, I am University student in New Zealand doing a research assignment. I am a recreational Mt Biker but am now looking to enter in a I'm XC race in 3 months. I was just wondering if you could give me some advice on what sort of training/preparation I should do in order to prepare for the race, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Tom

Answer
Hi Tom,

The best programs for Mountain Bikers and Road Racers along with a tremendous amount of other information is at www.bicycling.com

You should find everything you could want there they have even recently started adding videos that you can watch on virtually everything that has to do with biking and training, plus they have the latest news, reviews of the best bikes and just so much information you would be hard pressed to find a better site.

They are also linked to other sites that are more "targeted" such as the IMBA, and Road Cycling.

If you are planning on a XC in 3 months then you definitely need to start getting ready real soon.

I assume you have pretty decent base fitness and are relatively good at cycling in general, since you say you are a biker. You now need to increase your intensity and focus, getting ready for a race is a full time job. Do whatever you can to clean up your nutrition plan as that can really kill you in the long run. You don't want to "run out of gas" in the race.

If you don't already do it, you should be working out and getting, staying fit here is a good general workout that can be customized as you see fit. www.bmgfitness.com/workout.

Do check out www.bicycling.com most of the stuff there is free and there is a great deal of stuff there.

Hope this helps,

Have a great day
