Cycle Racing Equipment found at a Velodrome

British Commonweath Games are being held in Australia at present ... we are watching the cycle racing at the velodrome on our television and the question my son is asking me is ...
" What is contained in the piece of equipment used to steady the bikes before the start of the individual persuit"
There is much more than just a frame to steady the cycle. there appears to be a pipng, dials some kind of pressurised cylinder and I guess most importantly , the electronics to record the time ... But all of the other items have us quite puzzled ... Thank you   from Lloyd

Hello Lloyd,

It is a special equipment where you can stand still, and clamps your bike steady so you can't make a false start.
Further it will release you when the time is set to 0.
So, it is also connected to the timeequipment to set the correct time or laptimes.
