cambridge=batavus?

Question
Hi Michael,
I bought a used bike recently that is labelled as a Cambridge, 3-speed commuter. For all the world it appears to be made by Batavus but doesn't show that as such. The serial number begins with '89' so I assume that is the year of manufacture.
It is a magnificent machine. Stable/solid/well made/great ergonomics. Do you know whether my assumption about the manufacturer is correct? If so, would it be identical to the batavus of that year?
It had a 46 chain ring and an 18 sprocket which gave a bit too high gear ratios, what with the 28" tires. I just changed the sprocket to 19 which has improved the choices greatly. I see that Batavus is still in business. Are the current models as good as this one from the late '80's?
Thanks for answering these questions. I also serve as an allexpert in the auto repair section, but I try to use my bike for virtually all my local trips.

Answer
Hello Roland,

Unfortunately I can't find anything about the fact that Cambridge is an Batavus bike, just that Batavus had an model with the name Cambridge.
I doubt that the models of today are that good of the older bikes, they already have proved to be good. Otherwise they shouldn't exist anymore.
Be good for your bike, the bike will be good for you.

Wish you a very happy and healthy 2012.

Best regards,

Mike
