Campy Veloce 9 sp

Question
Thanks, Michael.

I am not planning to use the Shimano parts!  I am going to leave the old bike untouched.  I described it simply for comparison.

Changing to 13-26 would be the most simple solution.  On the Campy web site it refers to using a 13-28, but perhaps they are talking about using a "long cage" rear derailleur.  Is that an option for the 1999 9-speed derailleur?

Thanks

Question -
I just purchased got a 1999 Bianchi with Campy Veloce 39-53 front and 12-13-14-15-16-17-19-21-23 rear, which yields gear ratios from 3.6 to 9.3.  I got the bike from Miami FL but I live in the mountains near Asheville NC.  I want to gear it somewhat lower.  My old bike (Cannondale-Shimano) has gear ratios from 2.6 to 7.3 (42-52 front and 14-17-20-24-28-32 rear).  Can I refit the Campy drive train on the Bianchi to give me a low end nearer the old bike's 2.6 ratio?  What is the most efficient way to do that?  Thanks.  Rob Gage

Answer -
Hell Rob,

If your bike is equiped with Campagnolo (world finest), then it isn't possible to fit Shimano on.
Becareful, because some cassettes from Campy fit on Shimano and reverse. The body is different from Shimano/Campagnolo.
Further it is difficult for me to switch to inches while we deal overhere in meters.

You can use a cassette with the range of 13-26 or change the front chainrings.
But for hills a 39 with 13-26 is the moste common solution.
You can read more on the link hereunder.

If you have more questions, don't be shy.

Answer
Hello,

We'll meet again :-)

I think in my way the long cage isn't a option.
There is always some space to use such cassette, but near a 30 cog you will use a long cage.
We as lowlanders here in the Netherland will climb the most hills with 39/53 and a 13-26, maybe 13-28.
You can try the 28, but be careful with bad shifting.

Wish you the best.

Regards,

Michael
