2005 Mercury 25 HP Outboard Winterizing: Understanding Carb Smoke
Question
I have a 2005 Mercury 25 hp 2-stroke outboard. I've not operated it in a month. When I started it today as part of my winterizing process, it emitted lots of smoke. I had use fogging oil in the carb. Is all this smoke to be expected? Thanks!
Answer
Hi Charlie
That's exactly what occurs when you fog the carb and restart the eng. to lubricate the cylinder walls. You can expect the same thing to occur in the spring, but far less smoke, because it has drained from the top of the cylinder head downward.
