Actually, the word yacht is a Dutch derivation for a private vessel, power or sail, but more commonly, it denotes a sailboat. So, length really has nothing to do with its meaning. Many people consider a yacht to be a vessel large enough to have a couple of bedrooms, a bath & shower, a livingroom, full kitchen, & other amenities to live on board.
