water in gas

2016/7/15 18:26:57

Question
I have had a constant problem of water in my gas.  I have a 2007 Yamaha 150 4 stroke.  it seems as though I am constantly having to siphon out gas b/c of water.  I have heard everything about the 10% ethanol; however it doesn't seem to matter what brand of gas I get.  I have friends that have Hondas and have not had any problems.  I do understand that if my boat sits for weeks it is prone to water development due to condensation.  But my friend with the Honda seems to wait just as long to run his and never has had water problems.  I have the water/fuel separator but that only minimizes the problem; it still exists.

Answer
Hi Jamie...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.

Fortunately, it's not the engine that's the problem.

I'm not an expert on water but it seems to me contaminated fuel originates from three sources. First, is condensation, which is created when there is a fluxuation in temperature. Second, is a defective product/part permitting ingress of moisture/water, and third, is contaminated fuel from the source it was obtained.

Best you consult a specialist to determine the cause.
