Location and operating a bilge pump

Question
I have a 1985 19ft Thundercraft Boat, and I wonder if you could tell me where to find the Bilge Pump, and if the Bilge Pump shoud be on all the time when the motor is running and /or driving the boat? Also, where should I fine the Bilge Pump exit for the water, ikf any?

Answer
Hi Bob...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.

I believe the bilge pump is located under the sole or floor of the boat near the stern. An automatic pump should only run when the float is activated by the water level in the bilge, and of course, a manual pump requires you to activate a switch on the dash or nearby. In all likelihood, bilge water discharges near the stern end of the boat, and there will be a round collared discharge vent on the port or starboard side. Put sufficient water into the bilge, then turn on the pump and look overboard to see where it is being discharged from.
