Tilt/Trim Question

Question
Hello,
1998 Mercury 200HP (O/B) on my 20ft Procraft200 (recent purchase):
During the trimming function (at up to about 75% throttle), I am able to trim the motor slightly beyond where it should be then I back it off for where I like to run. However, I appear to have a trim limit during full speed as it will only trim about half way and wont over trim.  My question is: Do I have weak trim system cylinder or is this motor designed to limit the trim. It appears to be running fine; just all my previous (smaller) motors allowed me to trim beyond optimum to find the sweet spot.

Answer
Hi David...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to respond to your question, but I'm not a mechanic.

It may be the hydraulics are weak and need to be inspected for sufficient fluid, or bent rods, or restricted/deteriorating hydraulic lines.

When out of the water and on a trailer, have someone activate the trim system up and down, and observe for defects of motion or leaks in the hydraulic lines. At the same time, you do whatever you can to provide resistance by leaning down or pulling up on the lower unit in the opposite direction of its activation. I'm not aware of a trim mtr. being designed to limit the trim either up or down. If all else fails, consult a reliable Mercury mechanic.
