horse dosage

Question
I have a thoroughbrd racehorse whose dp=3-2-5-2-0 and DI=1.67 and CD=0.50... This horse is all speed right?

Answer
Not necessarily. The data shows a very low DI for a sprinter and a CD usually associated with a route horse. The numbers to the left represent speed, but are very week in this profile. It looks like distance was bred in to this horse, killing its speed. You do want higher numbers in the DP, starting from left to right for a sprinter, but nothing in the right 2 unless the left 2 is loaded with higher figures. You need a DI of 3-4+ and a CD closer to 1.0. Based on the dosage figures alone, I would train this horse as a route horse. I do not know the breeding on this horse so I can't give a definite option with out all the facts. Unless he is by a champion stakes sprinter and out of a champion stakes sprinter, I wouldn't expect speed at all. Dosage profiling is a nice tool to determine how strong blood lines are, but it has to be taken in consideration with many factors such as conformation, soundness, class, desire and acquisition. I hope this helps and thank you for the great question.
