Question
can you put a horse to mares and then geld it and race it again

Answer
Hi Diane,
        The short answer is yes.
However, this is not a common practice as it is very difficult to get the stallion to take an interest in racing once he has had a taste of what else he is good for!
One would wonder why you are considering this.
Sometimes a valuable, well performed stallion who fails at mating (low sperm count, too agressive, hard to handle etc) will be returned to racing but they are seldom as good as they may have been.
Mares are often served and then return to finish out the season before retiring to the matrons paddock.
Good luck,
